Spillepuls
Spillepuls, or Player pulse, is a project I have been working on since 2019 with an interdisciplinary team at Norsk Tipping. Personalized messages come up in the Norsk Tipping app and website that are triggered by something a player does, either in the moment or over a period of time. These messages focus on creating reflection on the player behavior and showing gambling behavior and often loss, while providing the option to set a lower limit or complete another action to reduce and control spending. All messages are tested in randomized controlled trials to see what has the most positive effect in several different aspects.
To date, we have reached 720,000 players (31% of our customer base), sent out over 7,000,000 messages, and gotten more than 1 in 4 to take action in a way that helps prevents or reduces problem gambling.
These messages have been created with knowledge based in behavioral design, nudging, service design, and readiness to change. In 2022 Spillepuls won the innovation award from the European Lottery Association, the first responsible gambling tool to do so.
